The photographs that make up this body of work come from personal and professional assignments dating back to about 1996.

It features some of my best and most thought provoking work to date.

This is a premium quality book using paper that is 35% heavier than regular photo book stock. It has superb opacity and a lustre finish.

I chose a square format for this book so that all the images, whether vertical or horizontal, would feature at the same size. There's an image on each page and on each spread the two images play off each other in hopes of creating some wit and tension.

It's a detailed little book. One that you can really get your teeth into.

Friendship. Community. Light.

I have just posted three gems from Isham Park at my pro blog that celebrate friendship, community and light. The light in Isham Park is utterly gorgeous and will stay with me forever. On tough days I can close my eyes and simply remember the light from Isham and feel at peach.

BALLOONS IN INWOOD

I love to photograph balloons. It amazes me how fascinated kids are by them. And how heart broken they are when one pops or escapes. That a simple balloon can bring about such glee and heartbreak so easily and quickly is intriguing. Don't you think?

Anti-War Mural

I happened upon this last evening. It's brand new, I think. I walk past here a lot and yesterday was the first time I say it. It marks the 5th anniversary of the Iraq war and expresses exasperation at the waste of it all. I think that everyone involved in this mural ought to be thanked and congratulated for such a moving and thought provoking piece. Society as a whole could do with paying more attention to this war and demanding answers from those responsible for starting it. Well done Inwood.

I went into the park late one night after a couple of pints at the Piper's Kilt and stayed in there for about an hour making these images and lots more. It was a very quiet and still. It was strange experiencing Inwood so quiet on a cool December night. I left at about 2am feeling very cold.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Inwood Pix

My family and I have been living in Inwood for a few years now. We love it. It's an amazing place to live with a young crew. So beautiful is it that I've decided to make a photo blog of shots made exclusively in Inwood and Washington heights. These images will post small but upon clicking will open in a new window nice and large.

I already have a lot of material and will continue to shoot in the neighborhood regularly, in all seasons, in hopes of making better and better images. For the most part these images are of the place itself rather than the people that inhabit it, though some of them will appear from time to time. That's inevitable.

I want to share these images. I want them to be seen. I would like to share Inwood, as I see it, with anyone who likes to look at fine photography. I will also be selling these as archival prints and posters. The posters will be less expensive and large while the photo prints will be of exhibition quality.

I've been a photojournalist since 1992 and have been widely published around the world. I like making photographs in this neighborhood where I live, of my children and on the streets of this magnificent city. I have an exhibition under development for 2008 downtown and I published my first book 12 months ago. I was featured in CROSSWALKS: Contemporary Street Photography at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art in 2006 and have had two solo shows in Manhattan, in 1998 and 2003.

This is my third blog and it's for our community. I also have my Photohumorist blog aimed primarily at my colleagues and peers who tend to comment privately. And finally I have my family blog for family and friends, mostly overseas.

I'll finish up this first post with an image I made yesterday on my way home from many hours of walking and exploring. This scene presented itself along Seaman Avenue as I rushed home to help Claire get the chaps ready for bed. Needless to say I was slightly delayed as I tried to figure out a way to make a picture. I went back later to try and make a better shot but it had been cleared away.
